Mei Dei Mae Dae May Day
I've completed and posted my May Day assignment here. Not too unusual a day, but I did my best to enjoy it as there are other things on my mind; it felt right to make the most of being here.

Ahh... you had me confused there for a moment. I thought that you were homophobic. Which had me a bit worried for a minute. *shrug* Hate crimes are a bit more common here than you think, and unlike in foreign countries, the police don't bother with them.
Nice picture of you shirtless by the way. *wink* You don't look half bad with it off, if you don't mind the compliment. I'm sorry, it's early and ... well... let's just say it's early and leave it at that, yes?
Hmm, I may be wrong, but is that the 23" Apple Cinema Display unit? That, plus calamari and Russian literature... something tells me that you hardly fit the poor, starving student profile. Pardon my inquisitiveness. Part of my nature.
Nice pictures though, I've always appreciated the Gothic nature of English architecture. Would like to see it for myself someday. Lucky chap.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend in the Potter's Bar accident, and I won't presume to understand how it felt for you; but I had two friends pass away suddenly in a car accident two years ago myself. It left me numb for a few months after the event to say the least, and it's something you don't easily forget about. But if I've learnt anything at all, it is that all grief is different, and different people have to deal with it in their own way. And time usually takes care of the rest, but only if you let it.
But anyway, I'm running a little late for breakfast, and while I have a great many questions to ask you, methinks this is hardly the time or place.
Hmm... totally out of topic, but these lyrics from a song have been stuck in my head lately,
"And I burn so completely I leave no trace,
Though so many out there would laugh in my face,
For wearing emotion so close to the skin."
Oh, and:
'Attorney General Ashcroft is visiting an elementary school. After the typical civics presentation, he announces, "All right, boys and girls, you
can all ask me questions now."
A young boy named Bobby raises his hand and says, "I have three questions:
1. How did Bush win the election with fewer votes than Gore?
2. Why are you using the USA Patriot Act to limit Americans' civil liberties?
3. Why hasn't the U.S. caught Osama Bin Laden yet?"
Just then the bell sounds and all the kids run out to the playground. Fifteen minutes later, the kids come back to class. "I'm sorry we were interrupted by the bell," Ashcroft says. "Now, you can all ask me questions."
A young girl raises her hand and says, "I have five questions:
1. How did Bush win the election with fewer votes than Gore?
2. Why are you using the USA Patriot Act to limit Americans' civil liberties?
3. Why hasn't the U.S. caught Osama Bin Laden yet?
4. Why did the bell go off 20 minutes early?
5. Where's Bobby?"'
Enjoy. Have a good day.
Actually, I can't say that I've heard that one; quite amusing nonetheless, but don't get me started on the politics of the US, both internal and external. I don't have the time to dedicate myself to a thread of that nature!
You are an inquisitive one, but don't worry; I'll just ignore anything that oversteps the mark.
Bye!
...
Just kidding - to address your concerns over my apparent lack of starvation: I am doing a Ph.D., and am thus paid a small amount. I neither drink nor smoke, so I don't throw money down the toilet.
Calamari only costs £4.25, the meal bill was split evenly, and I only eat out on the weekend - the week is spent eating salads, sandwiches and other peoples' leftovers, much like a raccoon, and at a low cost, usually under £10.00.
The screen (22") may well belong to the University, and Russian literature is not the domain of the wealthy. I love languages with a passion, though I am a scientist at heart, which is why I get by in Bahasa, speak reasonable French, better Italian, and am trying to get ahead in Russian despite how difficult it is. The university gives free language lessons to interested graduate students.
So, impressions may rarely reflect upon reality, as we'd previously established in 'Destiny' (I'd prefer to keep such discussion to that thread in the interests of tidyness!).
Lamb :: I cry ; it's a rather moving song. Thanks for the advice.
The architecture of which you speak is not easy to find, even here; Cambridge and Oxford are unusual in being dominated by it. My favourite is the St. Pancras Station Building in King's Cross.
Ah okay, I can take a hint. Sorry, my curiosity gets the better of me most of the time. And I've been stuck in front of my computer monitor all weekend due to piling assignments this week, so I've been constantly distracted by the web. Speaking of which, I'd better be getting back to the said assignments. Sorry again about the mess.
lovely, lovely photos. my favourite is the one of the setting sun and rising moon.
cambridge must be a nice place to live. i've visited a few times. got a few friends living there. tried the punting thing when i was there last may. i suck. fortunately, we had a couple of people who knew what they were doing on board, or we might not have gone anywhere!
Dropping by from the May Day website! Enjoyed your photos. Mmm I LOVE calamari! None to be found at my college area though :( Cute first shot! The rest of your photos were very nice as well. Great seeing someone's day across the ocean:)
Not to be taken too seriously, Ks; I don't find many things in this world especially irritating, apart from the impotency of understanding amongst the members of the US Republican government.
Kristen, welcome back, and thanks for the compliment. It is a nice place to be, especially on a warm day, when there's a thousand and one places of silly-beauty to settle down in for a comfortable read, picnic - or even work! Still, I'd rather be sitting in Seoul Kitchen by the Marina - I miss Singapore!
Hey there!
Thanks for visiting my blog. Guess what? I had already visited and bookmarked your site! I really enjoyed it a lot :)
I'll visit often, because I love where you live and I also love what you eat ;)
*drily* I think the real problem with America is that everyone's talking but no one's listening. */drily*
Hmm... you've been having a rash of visitors lately. So much for private conversations, ah well. Then again, what was I thinking? ... this is a blog.
Life is getting on my nerves. Sigh. Busy busy busy. Hope you're having more fun than I am Stairsman. If you aren't, go do something fun for me. I'll be stuck in front of this computer for a few more weeks yet. ARRRGGH!!!
Okay. Back to work now. Cheerz.
Alas, ks, assessmentville on this side of the planet, so plenty of what you're doing. Hence, I suppose, my attempts at making the most of the weekends by forcing myself out of the lab to get some leisure time in. It's so easy to forget to give yourself a moment to relax.
Yes, a few new faces, but don't worry, once the May Day furor has subsided, they'll realise that I rarely post anything of substance and, shortly thereafter, drift away! Take care.
Hi there....just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my site today. You've got a great looking place here, by the way.
Take care.
I've finished one assignment, handed it in. Four more to go. Have headache. Sleep now.
Ahh, I wasn't aware of this project but I enjoyed your photos thoroughly. Nicely done.
Thanks for stopping by my MayDay project page. Looks like you had a nice May 10th too. Nice site by the way!
