time out in Zakopane

Clearly hell on earth, Zakopane is situated in the Nowy Sacz Voivodship, at the feet of the Tatra Mountains, Poland. I'm taking a little time away during the month of July to look after youngsters; teaching English and dispensing activities at a camp, hopefully in the middle of nowhere, sounds like a good working holiday to me. As long as there's food, I'll be fine, come bug, bear, bugbear (there's some odd hybrid snafu going on here) or rabid raccoon. These are, of course, the western Carpathians, so I really hope I can do some climbing... it's my favourite outdoor activity (okay, contender with running and rowing), but I'm guessing that there won't be time for that. Alas.

Mmkay - I'll send you a ticket in the morning post as I know this is your bag   ;)

Despite the obvious interruption to my work, I'm pretty chuffed about being able to get away to somewhere I've never been before; god knows what I'll be assigned to get up to, but I'm sure it'll be fun.

I've heard it's a gorgeous area! Good for you!

By the way, why are you called "Stairs"?

The answer is in the post he made about his photograph being in the BBC website. ;) Just being cryptic.

Sorry Stairs, but you know that my natural curiosity sometimes gets the better of me.

As for travelling, here's a thought that occurred to me after a recent short trip I took at night. (I hate driving at night).

"It occurs to me that driving unknown territory often serve as great metaphors for life. You set off in a car, uncertain of the way, the highway is mostly in the dark, you get lost, you find your way, and in the end, while you hated every minute of it, you're glad you did it in the end."

Or maybe it's just my neuroses getting the better of me again.
