Luxembourg made for a really lovely trip, last weekend; I didn't post any of my pictures of the city because I'm an unhelpful philistine - what are you doing here anyway? - but having come home to London from Cambridge, I did get to see a virtual pile of digipix from my mother's camera, including some of those she took on the filmset for the upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare's Verchant of Menice.

An interior in the works; the attention to detail was phenomenal, and particularly impressive was the paintwork - the marble floor, for one, which was being painted into existence as we looked on. The people to the rear seemed important, the dummy to the left looks freakishly like me.

Why use the real thing when you can build it at cost? Film folk really do create entire Universes, or at least entire city districts, on call. To their credit, this set already existed, so its use probably saved some money.

On entry... one holiday destination turns into two.

Cornetto anyone?

Ahh, to have a film studio's budget for my measly student projects... sigh.

Thank God someone had fun this week. Makes me feel much better. So did you see anything strange there ?

Wait - Verchant of Menice? I could have sworn it was spelt correctly the last time I came...

Did you get to meet Joseph Fiennes? I hate you and want your life. ;)

Partial verlanism; it wasn't spelled correctly the last time, if you consider my adaptation a mis-spelling in the first place.

It's possible; I certainly met the director - he speaks perfect Italian (Radford did Il Postino, so it makes sense that he would) - and a couple of male and female cast members. I can't be entirely sure though. Get the sense that I'm playing games with you?

Jalal, nothing strange unless you count canals and cathedrals where there shouldn't have been, or women in renaissance dresses, cleavage aplenty, outside in temperatures of -4 C with wind chill to boot. It's just like Cambridge really!

I see via your link that Joseph Fiennes is a fraternal twin, the other one being a gamekeeper. If it's true what they say about twins, I wonder which one's the... erm... you know... the... the 'special' one.

Think I'm in with a chance? ;-)

(JF rocks my... erm... rocks.)

Well then, there's one area I need never discuss again for fear of having to hear you say that again.

ksquare said:

Oh, I have not yet even begun to call you names. ;)

Look, una gondola! That pic looks just like Venezia... The power of filmmaking.
