painkillers

I appreciate the kind words; I'm doing just fine now that my shoulder is back in one piece, though the soreness is keeping me on pills and my arm in a sling. An assessment in the next week or two will govern whether or not surgery will be carried out to stabilise the joint in the long term, a distinct possibility since this dislocation is a more severe repeat of one I had in 1998 whilst climbing in Borneo.

EDIT: caught The Incredibles today and enjoyed it immensely, so if you've enjoyed any of the Pixar productions, I suggest you take a look. I don't think I'm off the mark in thinking that it was largely inspired by the classic graphic novel, Watchmen, as anyone who has read it will be reminded of various similarities there (the anti-superhero political movement, the cape thing, the criminal who gets off on being beaten up, the villain who sets up his own stunts to achieve fame), not to mention the influence of Lee and Kirby's Fantastic Four. And if I ever have kids, I want my baby to pull the same trick that theirs does. At least on Hallowe'en.

Remind me to buy you Miracleman when it comes back into print. Get well soon, baby.

Hope you recover soon, Alastair.

I have traumatic memories of carrying wailing canoeists with dislocated shoulders out of inaccessible gorges.

Send the NSAIDs straight back and get them to give you some decent opiates!

Gosh, you sound positively heroic! There was wailing? Mine obviously didn't hurt enough, though it was certainly agonising after the adrenaline shock wore off (what bothered me most was the involuntary shaking that followed; I was trying hard to keep myself in check, but no - "Let's just jiggle that there arm up and down some more for ya!"). I'll stick with the easy stuff; opiates dumb the pain down too much for me to be able to gauge anything, and I have work to do. Of course, if you have pethidine... ;)

Thanks both.

Get better soon...

... although you do blog more when you have broken bits.

Will you be around for ice creams in the new year or are you all written up?

Hmm, you're right; more time cooped up in front of computers, which is kind of depressing - if it weren't so chilly I'd be out pacing the meadows.

I shall, oh I shall; I'm aiming for June actually, so when Thornton's gets their act together, we shall be on hand with £2.60 between us.

Unless you want a double? Okay, £3.40 it is!

Get well soon man.

Ouch! I wouldn't think enthusiastic wanking could do this to a shoulder. Settle down mister!

Seriously, hope you're doing OK.

You know, I loved "Watchmen". And "V for Vendetta". And any other number of graphic novels in that genre (of course, anything by Neil Gaiman is an automatic turn-on for me).

More importantly though, of all the characters, I think that E (Edna Mode) is perhaps my favourite. With the "Dah-ling!" and the disdainful "My GOD, you've gotten FAHT".
