celine

I tried to ignore the sheer theatricality of it, but while Karl Rove strategises to save the President's arse, Celine Dion gives a rather impassioned and moving plea for help for the people of New Orleans on Larry King. And she sings. And donates a million dollars.

That's the state of America today. Elected officials (although Rove is in power only because he's a buddy of an elected official) who are supposed to care for the people who put them there (and get paid to do just that), don't give a shit. The entertainers who are simply there to make us laugh or think or enjoy life are the real caregivers.

Does this mean I should stop making fun of Canadians?

We make fun of the foibles of some celebs but when the chips are down you can see who really comes through - and a lot of them use their $$ and influence to make a difference

Don't underestimate the contempt of sane americans for Rove. Although a British subject myself, I have lived in the US for a decade. I am daily appalled at the state of things, so much of it bringing to mind the worst excesses of the Third Reich.

Now, as for Celine.....she is rather wonderful, but great fun to poke at in other circumstances.

Just passing through, I'm liking the blog by the way.

Words fail me. Seriously.

I have a love/hate relationship with Celine: fantastic voice, sappy songs. She's being paid A LOT of money to plug Air Canada these days, however, when the company is in A LOT of financial trouble. A tad unethical, in my opinion. Hmph.

Who's making fun of Canadians???

Stairs, my darling, have you finished with your dissertation just yet? I'm bored in London this upcoming weekend and demand that you call or come and visit. Or e-mail me, at the very least.
